    ITEC Entry Level 3 Certificate in an introduction to the Hair and Beauty sector

Course Overview
The main aim of the ITEC Entry Level course is to enable learners to make use of skills, knowledge and understanding to carry out structured tasks and activities in familiar contexts with appropriate guidance where needed.

Course Structure
The course is comprised of 5 modules.

While on the course, you will take part in practical session working on blocks (mannequin heads) to learn the skills of blow drying and plaiting and later on will begin supervised practice with live models in the Classic Practical Area, applying what you have learnt in a fully equipped salon-school environment. Theory lessons that come alongside are conducted in the Lecture room.

Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Communicate and behave in a salon environment
  • Prepare for shampoo and conditioning
  • Shampoo, condition and towel dry hair

  • Prepare for hair plaiting service
  • Carry out hair plaiting services

Course Intake
Course commences first Monday of every month.

Course Entry Requirement
Course participants should be at least 14 years old of age at date of class commencement.

Graduation Requirement
Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant certificates:

  • Must complete all 5 modules with at least 80% (90% for International students) in attendance
  • Able to perform all 1 internal practical assessment of shampoo, blow and plait on live model
  • Complete 2 project assignments
  • Complete 3 MCQ assignments
  • Must achieve at least 80% in terms of live model requirement

Assessment
This qualification will be internally assessed and externally verified.

Each unit will have either project or task. The tasks will be assessed by our assessor using ITEC marking criteria. Project and MCQ assignments will be verified by ITEC Examiner using ITEC Grading System with each module having only 2 grades - pass or refer.

If you fail any module, you will be expected to be reassessed only in the module which you have not achieved a pass grade. Referrals should be completed within one year of the original assessment date.

Internal Assessment
Before completion of the course, the following tasks have to be internally assessed.

  • Present a professional Image
  • Shampoo & Conditioning
  • Hair Plaiting
  • Styling Women's Hair

You have to register to sit for internal assessment. There are 2 assessment dates per month. You are required to perform the above tasks on a live model. Students are responsible for their assessment live model.

External Verification
An ITEC External Verifier will verify the internal practical assessment record, project and MCQ assignments.
Upon passing the external verification, you will receive the ITEC Entry Level 3 Certificate in An Introduction to Hair & Beauty Sector.

Progression
At the end of the course, you will be able to use the knowledge and skill learned to carry out structured tasks and activities in a hair salon as a salon trainee. You can choose to progress on to ITEC Level 2 Diploma in hairdressing (leading to ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing certification) and take your place in the industry as a Junior Stylist.

Course Awards

  • Upon meeting all Graduation Requirements, you will graduate with a Certificate in An Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector by Kimage Hairdressing School.
  • Upon passing all the ITEC assessments, you will receive the ITEC Entry Level Certificate in An Introduction to the Hair & Beauty Sector.

    Tool kit fee refers to the complete set of tools that are needed to perform all the practical tasks in the course. Payable at point of purchase, which is the first day of class.

  • Locker Rental $13/month (Incl 7% GST)
    Rental fee applies to students who want to rent a trolley in the school and use it as personal storage. Rental fee is payable quarterly.

  • Trolley Rental $21/month (Incl 7% GST)
    Rental fee applies to students who want to rent a locker in the school and use it as personal storage. Rental fee is payable quarterly.

Mode of Payment
All fees can be paid over the counter in cash or NETS. Payment with cheque should be made in favour of "Kimage Hairdressing School Pte Ltd".

International Students
International students without valid passes must apply for 1 month student pass. For International Students on student pass, in the event that any of the following occurs, the school will inform ICA of the student's attendance:

  • Student has failed to attend classes for a continuous period of 7 days or more without any valid reason; or
  • Student has not attended classes regularly, i.e. where the percentage of attendance is 90% or lower in any month of the course without any valid reason.
  • Student's studies in the school has been terminated.

Material Fees
Material Fees of $50 is compulsory for international students holding student passes. Material Fees cover costs of goods incurred by the students during their hands-on live model practical sessions throughout their course of study. Material fee is payable upon commencement of course.

This course is for students that have no prior training in hairdressing and would like to start as a beginner to gain entry into the industry. The focus of this course is on the skills of shampoo and blow style, cutting, perming and colouring, combined with knowledge of customer service and salon operations.

Diploma in Hairstyling

As a follow-up to the Certificate in Hairstyling Course, the Diploma course will strengthen your skills with advanced techniques in cutting, perming, colouring and styling. You will have plenty of opportunities to practice with live models and become accomplished at every advanced skill. Instructors are there to professionally guide your progress but will also allow ample opportunity for you to experiment with an array of styles and develop your signature flair.

ITEC Level Diploma in Hairdressing

The main aim of the ITEC Level Diploma in Hairdressing is to enable candidates to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide hairdressing services. .

ITEC Entry Level 3 Certificate

ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing

The main aim of the ITEC Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing is to enable student to gain the necessary practical and theoretical skills in order to provide hairdressing services.

Shampoo & Blow Module

This is a national qualification for hairdressers. We are an approved training provider for this nationally recognised program. This course is designed to provide you with not only the knowledge and skill to function within the operations of a hair salon, but upon successful completion you are "job ready" and recognised within the hairdressing industry as a fully qualified hairstylist.

Basic Cutting Module

This module introduces students to hair cutting using a variety of one level techniques, graduation and layered techniques.

In practical, student will prepare the client to meet the gowning requirements.

During the customer consultation process, students will learn to identify clients' need and also learn to select the most suitable cutting techniques to achieve the desired effect and to ensure work methods meet health and safety requirements.

During cutting process, student will adjust their cutting techniques to take into account of critical influencing factors and consult with the client again to confirm the desired look.

Haircutting (Barbering) Module

This module introduces students to the barbering aspect of hair cutting using both scissors and clippers. The required techniques – internal layering and texturizing are being imparted through live models practical sessions.

In practical, student will prepare the client to meet the gowning requirements.

During cutting process, student will adjust their cutting techniques to take into account of critical influencing factors and consult with the client again to confirm the desired look.

Long Hair Styling Module

This module will introduce to students techniques on shampoo and condition hair, together with blow drying hair using different brushes to various finishes. Students will also learn to prepare the client to meet the gowning requirements and use of the correct massage techniques.

During practical, students will apply and remove shampoo or conditioner, and the excess moisture from hair, resulting tangle free and without damage to the hair and scalp. Next, students will learn to select the appropriate brushes and equipment to section the hair accordingly for blow drying.

During this process, students will direct the air flow correctly to achieve the desired result and satisfaction of the client.

Advanced Cutting Module

This module aims to educate students on preparing the client to meet gowning requirements, select suitable products, tools and equipment to achieve client’s desire look and give clear advice to the client based on accurate evaluation of the client’s hair.

During the cutting process, students will learn to combine, adapt and personalize cutting techniques to achieve the desired look and ensure finished cut complements client features and personal image.
