Course Overview
This course is for students that have no prior training in hairdressing and would like to start as a beginner to gain entry into the industry.
The focus of this course is on the skills of shampoo and blow style, cutting, perming and colouring, combined with knowledge of customer service and salon operations.
Course Structure
The Certificate course comprises of 6 modules, focusing mainly on basic to intermediate commercial hairstyling skills.
While on the course, you will take part in practical session working on blocks (mannequin heads) and later on will begin supervised practice with live models in the Classic Practical Area, applying what you have learnt in a fully equipped salon-school environment. Theory lessons that come alongside are conducted in the Lecture room.
Upon completion of the course, you will be able to:

Colour hair with retouch application and root to end application techniques

Perm hair with straight back, brickwork and fan winding techniques

Cut hair to one level, graduated and layered finish

Course Intake
Course commences first Monday of every month.
Course Entry Requirement
Course participants should be at least 16 years old of age and must possess elementary pass in English or Chinese or its equivalent.
Graduation Requirement
Students are required to meet the following criteria in order to graduate and obtain their relevant certificates:
- Must complete all 6 modules with at least 80% (90% for International students) in attendance
- Able to perform all 4 end of module internal practical assessments
- Must achieve at least 80% in terms of live model requirement
Assessment
Assessments are conducted internally. During the course of learning, upon completion of every module, you have to sit for its end of module practical assessment. There are 4 practical assessments:
- Shampoo & Blow
- Hair Colouring
- Hair Perming
- Haircutting
All practical assessments have to be performed on live model, except Hair Perming, which is to be done on block (mannequin head). Students are responsible for their assessment live models.
There are 2 assessment dates per month.
Examination
At the end of the course, you can register to sit for City & Guilds Examination. Upon passing both the practical and theory examinations, you will receive the Certificate Awards in Hairdressing (English) 1122 or the Certificate Awards in Hairdressing (Chinese) 8122 by City & Guilds depending on the medium of paper which you sit for. An exam fee of $700 is payable at point of registration of exam.
There are only 2 series of City & Guilds examinations — May/June and November/December. Students can only sit for June or December examination regardless of their course completion date. (example, students that complete their course in March, will have to wait till June to sit for their examination.
International students, upon completion of their course and expiration of their student pass, will have to return to their home country and make arrangement to come to Singapore for their scheduled examination.
Progression
At the end of the course, you will graduate with the necessary technical and commercial skills to take your place in the work force as a Salon Assistant or you can choose to progress on to Diploma in Hairstyling (leading to City & Guilds Diploma in Hairstyling) and take your place in the industry as a Junior Stylist.
Course Awards
Upon meeting all Graduation Requirements, you will graduate with a Certificate in Hairstyling by Kimage Hairdressing School.
Upon passing the City & Guilds Examinations, you will receive the Certificate Awards in Hairdressing (English) 1122 or the Certificate Awards in Hairdressing (Chinese) 8122 by City & Guilds depending on the medium of paper which you sit for.

Tool kit fee refers to the complete set of tools that are needed to perform all the practical tasks in the course. Payable at point of purchase, which is the first day of class.
- Exam Fee $700 (Incl 7% GST)
Exam Fee is payable at point of registering for City & Guilds examination and applies only to students that want to sit for the examination.
- Exam Resit Fee (Theory $175 & Practical $175) (Incl 7% GST)
Exam Resit Fee is payable at point of registering for City & Guilds examination and applies only to students that want to resit theory or practical examination.
- Graduation Show $107 (Incl 7% GST)
Graduation Show Fee is payable at point of confirmation of participation in graduation show. The fee is inclusive of a stage showcase and a photo shoot of your hair creation.
- Locker Rental $13/month (Incl 7% GST)
Rental fee applies to students who want to rent a trolley in the school and use it as personal storage. Rental fee is payable quarterly.
- Trolley Rental $21/month (Incl 7% GST)
Rental fee applies to students who want to rent a locker in the school and use it as personal storage. Rental fee is payable quarterly.
Mode of Payment
All fees can be paid over the counter in cash or NETS.
Payment with cheque should be made in favour of "Kimage Hairdressing School Pte Ltd".
International Students
International students without valid passes must apply for 3 months student pass. For International Students on student pass, in the event that any of the following occurs, the school will inform ICA of the student's attendance:
- Student has failed to attend classes for a continuous period of 7 days or more without any valid reason; or
- Student has not attended classes regularly, i.e. where the percentage of attendance is 90% or lower in any month of the course without any valid reason.
- Student's studies in the school has been terminated.
Material Fees
Material Fees of $420 is compulsory for international students holding student passes. Material Fees cover costs of goods incurred by the students during their hands-on live model practical sessions throughout their course of study.
